What kind of education is appropriate for Africans?

The defining theme on which much of the discussions during our inaugural meeting was centred concerned what kind of education that is appropriate for African development.

In particular, some of the issues discussed raised numerous questions such as what is the connection between education and development? How can education address the issues facing Africa? What should be the aims of education for African development? Is the kind of education currently provided across Africa relevant for the individual and the African states as a whole? What are the connections between education and political stability? How does education impact on individual and community values?

As part of the development of the network, we plan to provide workshops and videos of our discussions whenever possible in order to expand and consolidate our efforts to engage with the African and international community.
